Ingredients You Need to Make Crunchy Roasted Peas:

  • Frozen Green Peas
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic Salt

Substitutions & Variations:

  • Oil: Swap olive oil for avocado oil or melted coconut oil.
  • Seasonings: Try sea salt, paprika, onion powder, lemon pepper, or nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor.
  • Fresh peas: Use fresh shelled peas if available — just blanch them for 2 minutes and pat dry before roasting.
  • Spicy version: Add a pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika for a little heat.

Tips & Suggestions:

  • Dry thoroughly: The drier the peas, the crispier they’ll get. Blot them well with paper towels before roasting.
  • Use convection: If your oven has a convection setting, use it! It helps the peas dry and crisp faster.
  • Cool completely: Let peas sit for 10–15 minutes after baking for maximum crunch.
  • Watch closely: Peas can go from golden to overdone quickly near the end, so check every few minutes.
  • Mix it up: Try different seasonings — curry powder, chili lime, ranch seasoning, or parmesan cheese.

Storage & Make-Ahead Tips:

  • Store: Keep cooled roasted peas in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Re-crisp: If they soften, reheat at 350°F for 5–10 minutes to bring back crunch.
  • Freeze (uncooked): You can season peas ahead and freeze them on a tray — roast directly from frozen when ready!

The peas shrink to about half their size and so I have to make a HUGE batch if we want any leftover. These are a great snack to make in the morning and then take with you for an afternoon at the park, or in the car when you are dropping kids here and there!  We hope your kids enjoy these crunchy peas as much as we do!

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.

  • Allow the peas to thaw, then blot them with a paper towel to get as much moisture off them as possible. You can speed up thawing by covering the peas in warm water for a few minutes.

  • Place them in a bowl and add oil and garlic salt.  Stir to coat evenly.

  • Spread them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.

  • Bake in the oven for 30 minutes, then shake and stir them around to make sure they are cooking evenly.

  • You can try them at this point to see if they are crunchy enough for you.  If they need more time return to the oven for increments of 15 minutes until they are nice and crunchy. I usually bake mine for 45 minutes total to get them crunchy enough.

  • Let cool before serving. Enjoy!
