Open Heart – BionicOldGuy

This is the title of an inspiring autobiographical book by Dr. Akil Taher. He was a successful MD as he entered his 60s when his sedentary lifestyle and poor diet led him to need angioplasty and stents in his coronary arteries. This was not a sufficient wake-up call for a lifestyle change, so he required coronary bypass surgery a bit over a year later.

The book chronicles the remarkable transformation he went through after that. Physical activities included marathons, triathlons, and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. The change in his diet was equally impressive, eventually leading him to whole-food plant-based nutrition. His state of mind has undergone an equal transformation, and now in his 70s Dr. Taher is healthier and happier than ever. I highly recommend this book for inspiration, especially for older adults who need to hear the message that it is never too late.
